Vocal Cord Dysfunction/Paradoxical Vocal Fold Movement

These terms (also referred to as VCD/PVFM) refer to a tendency for the vocal folds to close suddenly, interrupting breathing patterns. Environmental triggers such as smoke, stress and exercise are common causes of a VCD attack. Symptoms are similar to asthma, and can co-occur with asthma, however VCD does not respond to puffers like ventolin.
